Thanks for the response Alex! One thing I was talking about with a friend yesterday about taking long off the grid vacation was the exercise of "wrapping things up". By "wrapping things up" and having to go in to "my company is going to operate without me" forces me into a mindset that "yes, my company can run without me" and "yes I can get out of the day to day if I need to". Very powerful reminder of that perspective.

Glad you enjoyed it, James! And great questions there. While there are stages, I've always tried to get off the grid anyway I could. Spending time with family and friends and just resetting has always been a game changer for future productivity for me.

Do you think this may be a very American perspective? In Europe I don't think that "vacation-ready" is a concept that resonates. Even busy founders would take holidays, although probably less than those on regular jobs in the early years.

Thanks for the share! Unfortunately I'm still too small to have that well placed org chart, I still wear multiple hats of the company, so when I do travel I carry my devices in case an emergency happens over my a text message from my team, but it has really never gotten to that. With that said though, I definitely try to recalibrate as well. Deleting apps and having an escalation plan are key to me for unplugging.

Now that I'm a founder of a small growing company, I feel like the types of vacations I go on really has changed. Before I used to be all about destinations and locations. But now I prioritize connecting with old friends and new people when I travel, immersing myself in inspiration of what other people are doing, and just following (instead of leading) others. I'm not sure if that's just the perspective of getting older or being a founder, but either way fulfillment for vacation has definitely been a moving target for me.

Has anyone else's vacation priorities changed at all from pre-founder to post-founder stages? How have they changed? How have you filled those voids / fulfilled those priorities?
