Thanks for the article, I feel like this is something I need to really tackle and not allow it to steal my small joys. I was wondering though how you might approach growth envy of someone who may be at the same level?

Great post Alex.

I'm finding that offering no resistance to negative feelings such as jealousy and accepting it as part of the journey takes the sting out of it somewhat. Alchemy and all that jazz.

Thanks again

Alex, the tendency to "Compare" ourselves to that of others, is something like a characteristic we all have cultivated all along our lives right from childhood. And I think we should not blame ourselves for this, but the surroundings. Probably there are many, who have influenced us in building this habit, including but not limited to our parents, siblings, teachers, and all.

I remember my mother comparing me to our neighbour(my friend) who was
studying in the same grade in school. She used to compare me with my friend and
insist me to read out loud while studying. Somehow my mother was convinced with the thought that if you don't read out loud, you will not learn and you get distracted from reading - the one theory which I don't understand even now :-).

But the point is, we all are trained in some or other way to do this "Comparison" from our childhood days. And this very characteristic is kind of “embedded” into our thoughts so much so that it takes a lot of time to change. For which, as you rightly mentioned, one has rethink and learn how to re-learn!

Great article Alex.

Alex, this time you have chosen a topic which I'm sure will resonate with almost all the entrepreneurs out there.

We have a big competitor in India and they spend huge amounts of money on TV & online Ads. When we think about advertising on Google, we are very conservative with the budget and this guy puts their Ads everywhere - even on totally irrelevant places. On top of it, they offer 50%, sometimes 80% discount on pricing.

Until last year, we used to get very discouraged with all this and we used to change our strategy (Pricing. marketing, etc) according to them. But slowly, we realised that this is not going to work.

I stopped following them completely. Never checked their prices, features, Ads, etc after that. We started focusing on what we wanted to do, and that really worked for us.

We were able to think clearly, came with unique features and now created our own name in the market (no matter how small it is right now).

Key here is to stay positive. Jealousy brings negativity and affects your ability to think forward.

Thanks for this post.
