Hi Alex!

Firstly, thank you for sharing your experiences! I became aware of your blog a little over a month ago having recently graduating from University. I started working in a tech startup and not knowing much about startup life, I find your blog posts particularly helpful, especially as I seem to be encountering some of the very points you talk about whilst managing our three products (Missinglettr, Onboard Tips and Updatey).

In fact, my hurdle this week was coming up with alternative ways to approach "important people"... and this blog post has cast a totally different perspective for me! Particularly where you say "I find it helpful to assume that people generally have good intentions" something which (I think) can be forgotten when you get so many "no's". Definitely good to keep in mind and keep on going.

It's only Tuesday and this blog post has already picked up my week! Thanks again :)

This is great stuff Alex! being able to reach out and connect with influences like yourself has been a big part of my work at WP Curve. I took away a lot from this article but my favorite tip was #4. This is a really good perspective changer and I think a much more interesting question to answer for whomever receives it.

I think this idea not only applies when asking a mentor a question, but also just when looking at people you admire or want to be like. It's better to focus on the process of how they got where they are than the actual results.

It's easy to get distracted by results.

My goodness. I feel I have broken all these rules on every level. This post has hit the nail on the head. Thanks Alex. And a funny thing I inadvertently tried one of these points and it miraculously worked. Its almost like you were reading my mind. Amazing post.

Hey Alex, nothing against Len, but I really enjoy it when you are the one leading the discussions and posting content. I don't get a chance to read every blog post, but every one I read is full of valuable information. So thank you for that!

I did have a few question though. You might have answered the questions I am about to ask in a previous blog post, and if that's the case I will be perfectly happy with a link.

When you start looking for mentors, is there a certain "magic" number of mentors that you are looking for?

Do you try and get multiple mentors with expertise in different areas of your business or do you limit your search to just one mentor?

If you do have multiple mentors, do you ask them all for advice about the same issue or do you target it to a particular mentor?

Thanks Alex. I look forward to your reply.

Really good post this week Alex! I really like how you break things down simply to the basics. It really helps me think of things differently while still framing it around my challenges. I know its for marketing groove, but super valuable. Thanks for keeping it up!

This is the phase we're at right now - as you probably have gathered from past comments and tweets - and these are great to keep in mind. I got both a 'yes' and a 'no' this week on different things from other entrepreneurs, and reading this helped me put as much perspective and value in the 'no' as I have been in the 'yes'.

Brilliant tips, Alex. So useful to those of us trying to build relationships with influential people. I especially loved the tip on not taking anything personally. It's my favourite and I will keep that in mind the next time I email someone and don't get a response.
