Great post Alex. Completely agree that hard work is as important as smart work. Do you mind sharing how many hours do you typically work in a week and how do you spread that over the week?

I ask this because I believe I work very hard but distribution over the week is very uneven and inconsistent. I am curious to know what other CEOs do.

Thanks!

Dude - I've always been an advocate of doing both, yet "working smart" seemed very subjective. The answer, as always, is simple. Thanks for the guidance on this, as it's something I've been scratching my head over for some time.

Hey Alex, thanks for the post.

We are very excited to know Groove's "why" and values. We don't find it anywhere. Is there any future post about this?

Best regards.

I think that a hard thing for most people is to actually be able to delegate work to others, with the fear that they won't do it as well as you.

I completely agree that the first step is to surround yourself with people that work hard and that you can trust, but it's sometimes difficult to find out this during interviews.

Do you have some tips to share about this?

Hey Alex, thanks for writing this.

If I could add one suggestion (that addresses both working harder and smarter), it would be this: learn to enjoy yourself along the way.

If you're constantly working your fingers to the bone, telling yourself that you can't enjoy life until that big buyout or milestone is reached, then you're setting yourself up for failure.

By finding meaningful ways to enjoy life (especially when you're working long hours), you'll be able to sustain yourself indefinitely and avoid burnout. Plus, you'll make much better decisions because you'll be in a better state of mind. Both of those outcomes improve your chances of success.

Like you, I've got young kids (3 of them), and I'm the co-founder of a growing startup. I can definitely relate to above! Appreciate you continuing to share your insights.

Yeah, really tools are important to stick with the deadlines, I was using Asana earlier and I found that most of the time was sticking with deadline, for some reason I missing deadlines with trello.
I think we stick with deadlines if we have end target(usually more than 3 months) along with daily or weekly targets.
May be I am wrong, but that's what I observed.

Great article, Alex. One way to help ensure you're working smart is to be sure you're eliminating distractions using a tool like rescuetime.com. I know when I get that report email from them each week that I don't want to see the spectre of "very distracting time" taking over my report. This goes under your #2 item in working smarter. Bet lots of folks have similar tools or methods to help keep them focused!
