Very interesting post...

I stumbled across this, as a Ex paying user, to a consumer, rather than business oriented SaaS product.
I cancelled, and then, after a while, felt zero interest in re-signing back up, when I wasn't asked what was wrong!!

So, from "the users voice" in this instance, yes, exit questionnaires and potential follow up, IS important, not doing this, has lost a consumer SaaS company me (and potentially others) as subscribers...

And yes, please do use open ended text boxes, multiple choice wouldn't have got to my root issue...

FYI I left because...
I submitted a simple tech support request ticket, and it disappeared into a black hole, without response or resolution, so at the next monthly billing cycle, after 5 weeks silence, I was gone!!!

Had I had an exit questionnaire stating my ticket was lost, and reiterating the issue, the company could have saved me, by coming back with an answer to a simple question!!

Hi Alex,

Thanks for sharing this! I recently joined a Client Success team and wanted to implement a churn survey, so this article is super helpful.

Just one question: How long after the partnership ends do you send the follow up? Immediately, a week after, a month after?

I'd really appreciate any tips!

Best,
Paula

Doing surveys for the sake of it never had any impact on response rates. Questions need to be drafted in a way that connects with the respondents. I am HR and planning to conduct some surveys myself and would love it if you’d suggest me some options for online survey tools. How about SoGoSurvey?
