First of all, I apologize if you can't understand my English as it is not my mother tongue.

In my opinion, you should use current generation as a comparison, say the son of the founder of big company(Son A) and the son of the construction site worker(Son B).

Are both of them really start with nothing? Can you really say so?

I and fully understand that the inequality as well as one can achieve something once he work harder than anyone else.

However, if both sons has equal of everything, Son A doesn't need to walk the hard path and take much time to be successful while Son B need to work so much harder and doesn't guaranteed to be successful and if he not, he is done unlike Son A as he still has his father got his back.

Your article might sound good for debate or education but not for reality.

Very useful post. I specially love the “Never compare your beginning to someone else’s middle.” although sometimes it is useful to compare yourself to someone more advanced because you can see that it is possible to progress or that you are doing better than you thought.

I've found startup life to be a roller-coaster. One second it feels you're doing great, the next if feels like you're not. The thing I do is to try and stop measuring my business against others as everyone has to start small, and comparing my growth to that of an established company (even in its early days) doesn't help. Keep up the hustle and I wish you success.

Gutsy post! It's interesting in that I feel like this is one of those hyper-polarizing issues. Your words are either falling on deaf ears or preaching to the choir. In my experience there's very little middle ground. Case in point: one of the first comments. I find it kinda funny though, he pretty much did exactly what you highlighted at the beginning of your post: "sure, I hear what you're saying but this won't work for me because of X - you don't understand my situation .. excuses... excuses....". I suppose we can all be a bit like that sometimes without realizing it, but the key is not to let yourself make excuses. Attitude is the strongest force out there, period. If you think you can do something, you can.

There are certain kinds of people that just have an excuse or a reason for everything. It drives me nuts. When you're talking to someone like that you're tempted to think maybe something you say can help them overcome an obstacle, and that they actually want that, but it never seems to happen; it just turns into a pity party.

If you're pointing to outside people, events, or others' mindsets and saying "that's why I'll never succeed" then that's the problem right there - that you even think that. No successful entrepreneur was just handed it, and if they were they wouldn't have built the necessary skills to keep the success. Even Jeff Bezos took over 60 pitches to get the initial funding for Amazon. The idea that people get funded because they "look" like an entrepreneur is a load of BS, and if it were true for a particular VC I'm not sure I would even want their money - how could you trust their judgement?

There's a thought that says you're the average of the 5 people you hang out with most, so when it comes to these kinds of people it would seem wise to be careful, this is in my mind what kills success more than anything else. I can't remember who say it but still rings true that most startups don't get killed by the competition, they usually find creative ways to commit suicide. I think mastering yourself and your mindset is one of the best things an entrepreneur can do.

Couldn't agree more with this article, and been really enjoying the blog overall - thank you.
