Obviously this is attacking from the customer service angle (your angle) but I love how it's 90% applicable outside of that too. I'll be referring back to this article over the next few weeks.

I'm a big fan of Kaizen but it's one thing to believe in it and another completely to put it into effective practise!

We made a change in our company last month. Since we are not a remote team, we benefit hugely from everyone being present in the office at the same time. So we held a discussion with the whole team and proposed that we try coming to work at 9am every day for exactly one month. And that at the end of the trial, we will decide on the increase in efficiency. Since it was a team effort, everyone including us founders, made it on time and we saw a very visible improvement in productivity. We now start at 9 and close at 6. It was a great exercise and has given me confidence in bringing culture changes within the company.

Great post, Len. Your comment on "Change is hard, and lasting change is really hard" is spot on. It is one thing to KNOW what to do, another thing to be able to do it, and another thing to successfully do it (the lasting change).

Thanks Len for the great thoughts on how to change up company culture. We recently experienced some company culture change ourselves - We ended up trimming down on our own, those that wanted to adopt the changes stayed and flourished, while those that are less likely to change aren't exactly the right fit for our startup.
