We’ve been running an open beta for the last year to collect as much customer feedback as possible. Because we have a fairly niche product, over 90% of our users are our target customer. However we have definitely experienced some of the issues you mentioned.

To be completely transparent, one of our biggest wins has been sending the “Welcome, plus a quick question” email to gather feedback. We’ve seen about a 15% response rate, but more importantly it opens the door for conversation.
