I also recommend everybody to install Rescue Time. I've been using for more than an year now. It tracks all your computer and mobile usage.

You can setup some goals like "Use social network less than 1h a day" or "More than 6h doing Productive Activities".

Once a week, Rescue Time send you an email with a complete report.

I'm going to install those site blockers. Maybe it could help me achieve my daily goal on using social networks.

Great post!

Adding to the removing distractions part of this post, which i'm sure most can relate. I found out about RescueTime (a desktop app) about a year ago, which blocks and tracks your usage across computers. In addition, you can set limits on websites/apps which will keep you reined in.

I am not affiliated or compensated in any way, I am simply a happy user and gained back several hours per week. Now if only a solution existing for iOS.

So to Len's point about removing distractions, probably got 1 hour a day back in my life, no joke! I've been trying for years, but now I'm free for 1 month now! I feel like I'm typing like an commercial for sudden weight loss, but anyway thought I'd just share my progress somewhere for anyone that might find it useful..

Website distractions have been something I've been struggling with but have now been website distraction free for a month. I used many of those time blockers but eventually I'd just stopped using it or just jump on my phone, go on a different browser, or just exit the program. After a year of not "fixing" my behaviors, I instead just went cold turkey, both on my computer and my phone, and I had to make the barriers fairly difficult to reverse. The crazy part of going cold turkey is that I'd STILL go to the websites after they were blocked, they were absolutely engrained in my subconscious. At first it was like 10-20 times a day but now it's 0-3 times a day. By putting the high barriers to reverse them, my conscious now has the opportunity to kick in and I removing time-wasting behaviors and creating new productive ones! No longer hooked, Nir Eyal! ;)

[For the techies...] On my computer, I simply put in /etc/hosts rules and on my phone, I got a Nexus 5x with Marshmallow on it which allowed me to override the bootloader without rooting the phone and then I modified /etc/hosts... But do note I did brick my phone for 2 hours while doing this... :P Phones make it extremely difficult to block websites, but once I did that, that's when the real change happened. To reverse each one it'd take me at least over 5 different technical steps, and apparently that was the secret recipe for me.
