Hmm these are great ideas, you've inspired some new development! We offer an App that eliminates packing errors using a barcode scanner. Scanning the packing slip is used to cue the order for packing. Since not every order manager offers the option to have a barcode on your packing slip we added the option to print packing slips in GroovePacker . We did add a custom message area and you can use html (see attached) but there are so many possibilities I'd not considered before! For example I'd love to add an option to insert the customers name and a coupon code. On a side note, do you think any of our customers would optionally include a small mention of our app? ie: "Packed with Love using GroovePacker" or would that be overly cheesy?

Great tips. At my company, I had our developers create scripts that would put certain small symbols in the corner of a sales receipt based on different criteria and only our shipping department would know what they meant. They would range from a handwritten note to free gifts and be triggered by such things as a large first purchase by a new customer, a 5th purchase by the same customer, etc.

IMHO, By far the Greatest Post I've come across from you, Len. You've touched a great subject and I, (in founding stages of my web tech startup) am guilty of not thinking about that myself. Thanks for the reminder! Keep up the good work!

Totally agree, our clients make gorgeous Invoices with our <a href="https://www.moogento.com/magento-pickpack-picklist">pickPack</a> add-on for Magento and it definitely increases the followup sale (which produces way more profit than acquiring a new sale).

One add-on that I would suggest testing with is, adding a unique coupon code for the customer - to help get that repeat sale.

Another thing I'd really recommend is to show an image of the feedback section of wherever they have bought the item (eg. showing the multiple places they should select 5 stars in eBay), with a nice note reminding them that anything less than 5 stars you'd love the chance to rectify before they give it.

A little extra tip if you're selling on Amazon or eBay, you're not allowed to give the url of your website, but I assume there's no issue listing a link to your marketplace store (or a search that results in your store). We've used bit.ly links to make it easy to type in - especially if you're selling a product which has competitors this could help to return your customers to your store (vs. searching for the item and potentially coming up with a competitor).

If you have a smart Invoice solution you can choose to show your website in sales from your site, your brand only, in other sales, and specific review/shortcode-links for each specific marketplace.

Len,

One of your best posts yet! I think the 4th tip about a heartfelt email could even be used as part of an auto email string to convert potential customers.

I own buybackboss.com and one of our main hurdles is converting our leads into customers. Tips #4 and #5 are especially valuable to combat this issue.

Keep up the good work!
