Thanks for all these important points. I'm one of those readers that would love a chance to have an actual work-life balance remote job with a fair paying salary and also that I may be accountable, responsible and know how to handle hours within a remote environment if I ever get a fair chance. What will you recommend to people like me, looking for that YES and that it is up for the entry level positions we first need.

Thanks for this post!

One huge challenge I've encountered in hiring for startup roles, is that we really need someone that can fill several 'traditional' roles. For example, someone who can handle content strategy, planning, and execution. Any tips on how to find rockstars who can wear many hats?

Also - I am currently hiring for a Director of Content Marketing, and will be using some of the tips above. But if you have anyone to refer:

Awesome article as always.

Same as Josh, could you explain more your hiring process? Do you give any project to do at home? How many people do you interview before choosing the best candidate? Do you have a trial period after the hiring? Do you do it differently if you're hiring a developer VS a marketing/support person? I've been experimenting a bit with both and I've found trial periods very useful, not so much about take-home projects I usually prefer to see real production code, it says more how someone would work once hired.

I'd love to hear about how you hire for positions you may know little about. If you're a backend developer, how do you hire a marketing guru? If you're a business guy, how do you hire a mobile developer?

I'd also like to hear about how you hire developers in general at Groove now that you're bigger.
