One thing you can consider is finding out how you're really spending your time. I just started using RescueTime and it's been a really important tool for helping me be honest with myself how much time I'm spending emailing, looking at non-business sites like FB, and so on. I'm sure there are a lot more tools available for similar purposes, and you might also consider keeping a time journal for non-computer time.

You may have to make some tough choices, like watching one less rerun of Murdoch Mysteries a week (perish the thought!). Your business deserves no less.

Finally, consider combining your reading time with other activities, like reading while exercising (I love reading while riding my FitDesk bike) or listening to audiobooks/podcasts while commuting (get some BlueTooth earbuds even if you don't have the new iPhone - they're worth it).

If other people can do it with the same 24 hours we have, we can do it too!

Insightful as always Alex. I have found that what works best for me is having dedicated time to read first thing in the morning and then later in the evening!

Absolutely right. Making time for learning is super important. Reading is one great way. There are other effective techniques too (not to substitute but to complement reading). I was doing some research on modern learning techniques last night and came across this podcast and got many aha moments:

https://soundcloud.com/unlock-potential/vicarious-learning

Sharing learnings and reflecting on them through informal conversations is not only great for learning but also great for networking (making meaningful connections).

Thanks Alex for being a role model here. If busy CEOs like you can make time for reading and sharing the learnings, we all should be able to make time.
