Having operated for a years with a mostly remote team, we have recently added some more bodies in house. My immediate feeling is that we do spend a little too much time "collaborating" now and that it does hurt our productivity. On the other hand, I do feel like that facetime does more in terms of idea stimulation than we typically experienced when working remotely. However, what we didn't do as well as we could is structure good communication between all members of the team to make collaboration easier and more natural for our remote people. We will definitely start implementing a similar structured approach as you present here. Hopefully, that will help us bridge the gap. Thanks for sharing!

I'd like to ask you about Product development, I remember that you drop a chat functionality a while ago because it was more distracting than adding value to your core product. I have a few questions:

1. How do you decide what features to add or remove from Groove?
2. How often do you add or remove features?
3. How do you measure what features get used more often and which ones are not used very frequently?

Thanks!

Totally agree with the Remote Business. We are a fairly new startup and it's been all bootstrap growth wise for us. It's been me and a friend for some time but now I'm needing to bring on some other talent. Did you hire full-time remote workers in the beginning or were they contractors? Also, was content marketing and Partnerships all you did in the beginning or did you have a sales person. I am my own sales person for now.

Thanks Alex for all the thoughts! On the Remote Team - how would you build a culture of transparency, responsibility and also make it fun. Any thoughts here? As always a learner from all your posts!

Paid search isn't really something you want to experiment with - you need to know what you're doing or you'll dump a fortune. This is what I do every day - and having been a blog reader since pretty much the beginning I know what you guys are trying to do. Can I tempt you into a conversation about running it for you on a freelance basis?
