@alex, you might have been asked this before but I figure il ask anyway

What did you find was the most difficult part of your journey this far, from $0.00 / month to where you're at now?

Moreover, was there a certain "aha" moment when things became easier and more consistent say, after the $10k or $20k MRR?

Best,
Connor

If I have an idea and talking to prospective users, it seems like a good idea. Should I quit my full time decently paying job to execute this idea or keep trying this as side project until I get good traction in user growth or customer revenue and get more clarity on this idea?

Hey Alex,

Excellent timing on this one. We have almost completed our conversion from a Django based website to WordPress. We made this move because I (the primary user) am not a programmer and I often ran into issues where I had to override our custom CSS styles to get something to work. This meant pulling a developer off a project to make a tweak. I was limited with what I could do from a marketing standpoint. It was either time for me to really learn to code (no more hacking) or switch to WordPress.

Once we put aside the "ego" of we're a web development consulting company.. we can't really use WordPress .... can we?? YES, we can! We decided to bit the bullet and make the switch. It took longer than expected, but I think I'm going to be really happy with the result.

I have a follow up question for this post:

You mention that implementing wordpress would fit into the category of "what we would've done differently if we started over". How would you deal with "code bloat" and forced plugins etc which results from using a platform like Wordpress?

While we're big fans of wordpress for our company "Mom and Popcorn" (http://www.momandpopcorn.com/) since we get woocommerce... we went with a Jekyll built static site for our Zenkeep site (http://blog.zenkeep.com). Our reasoning is we can build the site to be "hella fast" in comparison to a wordpress site.

For any small business owners without any programming knowledge we think wordpress is simply the best! I know the big guys can use it - but, do you feel you could have built a wordpress site to compare with what you guys are using now?

Webflow is a perfect solution for GrooveHQ and any other site that is looking for the flexibility of code, without the arduous aspects of it. The platform will let you host pages that you design yourself, and you can hook in a CMS with it and have extremely expressive style controls. I guarantee you can re-create groovehq.com/blog in a fraction of the time, and it will look pixel perfect. Check out https://webflow.com/cms to give it a shot.

A bit biased of course, but thought I'd chime in anyways :)

I did it! Ok here's another question for you :)

I've been following your playbook on Ramen's new "SaaS Product Success" blog (https://ramen.is/blog ) for 6 weeks now. We didn't get 1000 subscribers in the first 24 hours like you did with this, but it's been great for us.

I find it hard to get ahead of the content schedule. Every week, I start my Monday with writing that week's post. I go back and forth on whether or not I should try to get ahead and bang out 4 posts in a week, so that's my question to you:

How much lead time do you have between finishing a post and putting it live? During that lead time, are you doing things with the content? Getting feedback from inner circle people, for example.

Thanks!

Timely post Alex :) We were just building a promotional strategy for our B2B SaaS blog. Love the way you reach out to influencers and am sure lots to learn for us there.

Had a question related to building the right content for your target customer. What exercises did you go through to find out the real pain points of your end customer/user and hence find topics to write about?

I find that each post you guys write connects with me at the core and adresses a real problem.
