I agree on starting the night before - always decide on my top 3 tasks before I leave work. Then in the morning, I always make my bed first (a Tim Ferriss tip), and then meditate for 20 minutes, and then journal - mostly a brain dump of what's on my mind (Morning Pages). The 5 minute journal is a great tool when I'm in more of a hurry - starting the day with gratitude is crucial for me. I've also found that even a two minute walk outside helps start the day with a little bit of nature and more positivity.

I wake up each morning to a text message from a gratitude platform called Humanize (www.hmze.co) asking me for one thing I am grateful for. I like the practice of starting my morning by reflecting on my previous day and recalling something or some experience, alone or with someone that made me smile. It takes me under a minute to respond to the text, and then Humanize archives and recaps my responses weekly. I love reliving these memories!

Love this! I'm always curious how others, esp. WFH types do things. I usually get up by about 7:30 during the school year. Oversee children having breakfast & getting out of the house while clearing the support queue (I work in support). Drop kids to school, work out, and then I get on with work. The first-thing (well, by some standards... I'm not a morning waker!) work-out helps me focus later and burns off any irritability from the kid routine.

Hmm, what exactly is morning? :-) I get up between 5 and 6am. Go through all the Slack and email inbox, drink some water, work for 30-60 minutes and after that I get breakfast around 7. For some this might be still night :) I usually work the most in the morning, do a little workout session before lunch, work after lunch and go for a run around 3.
When I commute, I commute immediately to coworking space after I get up around 7 and after the breakfast.

My mornings always start the night before. I find that email is the biggest disruptor (and mood setter) to my mornings so I try to reach inbox zero before I close down for the night - if it needs to be actioned it's added to a to do list and filed.

In the morning I drink (I could pretend it's water, but generally tea) and eat, then I look at my To Do list before I shower. I'm then thinking about MY priorities for the day while I shower and dress. Only then do I open my emails, I can then take a balanced view on whether the content of new email is a bigger priority than those things on my to do list.

I wish I could get up earlier (I am trying), those golden hours before everyone else wakes up are so productive, I think I could finish at midday if I started work at 5am.

Great topic! It's something I've been working on since the beginning of the year. Since January, I've started getting up at 5:10 am and reading until 5:45, then do a quick 15 min workout before getting ready. By 7:00, my time is devoted to getting my kids out the door to school but then I can resume my routine at 8:00, have a 20-30 minute run, grab breakfast in the kitchen, and then be at my (home) desk by 8:45/9:00. My productivity has skyrocketed and I'm loving getting back into the groove of reading religiously! On top of that, the biggest contributor is keeping my day planned down to the minute. Consistency and routine are so helpful at keeping me to task.

I have a very similar morning routine, along with a foam-rolling pilates workout, and it's pretty engrained. However, it's my evening routine that is most important for me but that's also something I'm constantly working on. For example, I need/want the following down prior to each morning:

* There's food that can be eaten for breakfast
* Workspace is clean and ready to start a new day so I don't I have to move stuff around in the AM
* My larger todolist is set so I have a bearing in the morning and don't even have to tihnk about it
* I look at my calendar to remind me of any important calls
* The next day is time boxed

If I don't do one of those things, it really throws me off in the morning and I'm scrambling to do all those things on top of my normal operations.

I don't have to do it before I sleep, it could be done before I get out of the office or in the early evening.
