I'd like to try a radical new approach to transparent development of our SaaS product. What do you think about making all of our development tasks public and showing our customers what's in progress, what's next, and what we have planned for the future. I'm talking direct access to our Jira with an interface in our product to view the task list, sort it, see statuses, etc. Our customers are very passionate about our product and are always asking what's next, etc. I'm not seeing any downsides to this.

Great article. As the saying goes: "Sales solve all problems" so learning how to sell is incredibly important.

Now to circle back around with a question about marketing :)

Knowing what you know now, if you had to start marketing your app from scratch today how would you approach your marketing and where would you focus your energy, budget and time?

I'm happy to see Sandler mentioned multiple times in this post.

When I started my consulting business in 2012, one of my mentors said, "If you're going to do this, you need to learn sales, and that doesn't mean read some books. Meet with the guys over at Sandler." I did, and it was one of the best experiences of my professional career. I attended a two hour class weekly for a year ("President's Club") that was supplemented by a weekly one hour personal coaching session.

When I moved to San Francisco in 2014 I hired a local Sandler coach for weekly one hour coaching sessions. It's literally the best money I've ever spent. Even the best golfers have a golf coach...

Hi Alex, Groove is one of the few blogs that I actually subscribe to - kudos!

I love that you have a 100% remote team. If you can go into it, can you describe what your corporate structure looks like? Where is your company registered? Do you have to deal with franchise taxes? Thanks in advance!

Great tips! In my experience the most effective sales tactic is to so SOMETHING. Any action is better than sitting around for days at a time, thinking of the next greatest strategy.

Also, it's important to keep in mind that even the most successful sales guys that kill their quotas consistently hear a NO solid 90% of the time. If 90 people in a row tell you "no", it still doesn't mean you can't succeed!

I would love to share the very best sales advice I have ever heard- keep on telling yourself "two more NOs till it's a yes". It works wonders.

Two more NOs till it's a YES. You are SO close! So no matter what you do, just don't give up. Just DON'T.

Have you tried any referral strategies that have worked as a SAAS based company? For example, I always here about Dropbox or Uber/Lift, etc, but those are more consumer focused. I want to equip my paid clients with the right tools to spread the news but don't know what tools have been tried and true.
