Thank you for putting this out there, and I am sorry for your loss.

I have been struggling with the whole "what am I doing here?" debate in my head for the last several months. In the end, we all have 24 hours in a day and 365 days in a year. None of us knows when our last day on this planet will be. So we need to ask ourselves how will we spend each of those 24 hours. On my last day here, I am fairly confident that I will not be wishing I had analyzed one more website, but WILL be remembering all of the time spent with my loved ones and realizing that it was never enough. Live for today; plan for tomorrow; MAKE time for the important things in your life.

Sorry for your loss, Alex.

You are lucky enough to work on what you love, every day. Many people hate their daily jobs, but go on doing it hard bcs it seems the only way to survive, sacrificing not only beloved ones, but their own potential. Brother of my wife died of cancer a year ago. I promised myself to start being happy, at work and at home. I slip often, of course, but go on trying, and it pays off.

I wish it took less pain to realize what's really important.

From the heart Alex, I love it! I agree, I recently visited the sister and mother of my late friend who passed away while we were young 13 years ago. I realized running away from my problems is the wrong way to go and enjoying as much time you have in this life with everyone you love around you. I'm just happy I have the opportunity to enjoy my lunch and breaks at home with my family for this moment in time and cherish every second. Thank you for the reminder!

What I do to realize if i'm doing the right balance is to think about one thing a teacher told me:
"If tomorrow the world is going to end? What would you do?"
You answer...
Then he says:
"Why aren't you doing this while you're alive and well?"
So, if I die tomorrow, will I regret something? Will I think I didn't make enough? Will I think that I should have spent more time with someone? Or... Should I have worked more?
The answer must always be NO, then I can die and live in piece.

Thanks for sharing this story and for reawakening a realisation in a lot of us. These principles are so simple and we already know we need to follow them, but for some reason we like to make our lives hard and hustle instead of living. I agree with you in the sense that it is probably a balance that most of us will continue to fight to achieve, but achieve it we will!

My sincerest condolences for your loss. Your post struck a chord with me as I have lived through the exact same circumstances over the last few months. Sadly my mother is no longer with us, and I am still coming to terms with the fact I will never get the opportunity to do some of the things we had talked about doing together "one day".

Good on you for sharing such a personal and difficult situation with the community. It's a reminder that for many of us while we love our companies and what we do, there are friends, families, pets and hobbies who we also love that need an equal share of our time. Finding that balance isn't always clear or easy, especially when work demands are ever present and always attached to a timeline.

We want our businesses to thrive and grow, but at what price? There needs to be balance and posts like these are timely reminders that finding that balance should be a priority for all of us.

Reading this post first thing in the morning gave me a great headsup!
Thank you Alex.

I would like to say that for me it works out always to take time-out for my parents especially Mother and also for my Fiance. That feeling gives me a satisfaction and a sound sleep too. Though I am just at the beginning of my career I wish I would talk with them daily and appreciate our bond even after the life gets busier!

Regards!

I'm sorry for your loss.

while we continue the hustle, we console ourselves that we kept the things that mattered in that special corner of our minds.

That, is not enough. Call home now, just for a minute, tell them how much they mean to you, make that plan to bond, make it happen.

I lost that chance to something which I would never wish upon my worst enemy. I lost the chance to hold and love, the smell my children's hair and wife's cooking, to divorce.

a death of a different kind, but a reminder that the loss is just as bad as I have lost loved ones to cancer too.

KPI's are important, managing your business to keep your job and stakeholders satisfied is too.

you guys will justify and say 'I can't afford not to do this now'.

I say focus, prioritise, break out that 2 minute call twice a day. you can do it.

God bless

Anyone who has experienced this, or is experiencing this, there is only one grounding point to focus on: THE PRESENT MOMENT. Anything else will keep you mired in the past or future and you will miss the gifts that only a journey like this is offering you.

7 years of 24/7 care for family taught me this and allowed me to finds ways to help them enjoy life. And now, slipping back has left forever.
