Photo Booth International is an E-commerce business that builds and manufactures portable photo boothsâthe kind you might see at a wedding or in a corporate booth at a conference. The company sells products online through a Shopify websiteâthen ships its orders to small business owners across the country who own and operate photo booth rental businesses.

Josh and his team were Groove users for three years. But on the advice of a consultant, they left Groove to experiment with other customer support solutionsâincluding Zendesk and Freshdesk.
In Joshâs words, it âdidnât go well.â
Email Wasnât Enough
In the early days, Josh and his team were using email to answer questions from customers.
âOur clients are all remote,â Josh told us. âTheyâre from other cities and locations, and they canât come by to ask us questions.â
It's a common problem for many e-commerce businesses.
Josh explained, âWe realized we needed a way to track these conversations, because sometimes we werenât getting back to people the way I wanted us to. We also needed to be more organized, because a lot of people had the same questionsâand we were answering those over and over again just through email.â
Starting with Groove
Josh researched support platforms for something better than Gmailâand eventually decided to try Groove.
âWe went looking for something to replace Gmail, and then we found Groove. It was fast, and it was really easy to use. That simple setup was what kept us with it for a long time. When we hired someone new, we barely spent any time training them on Groove. Itâs just so easy to use.â

Leaving Groove to Manage Costs
At one point, Josh hired a consultant to help increase results and profitability across the company. One of the first things they looked at were the subscriptions Photo Booth International was paying for.
âWe looked at the credit card statement and highlighted all the subscriptions on there,â Josh said. âThen we went through each one to see if we really needed it.â
Groove was one of the subscriptions they decided to eliminate as a way to manage costs. Josh hoped he could find another option that would meet his needsâbut cost less overall.
Trying Zendesk and Freshdesk
Josh tried a few other support solutionsâtrying to see if there was something else that would meet the needs of his company.
âWe gave it a good shot,â Josh told us. âWe had a number of users back then, so it would have been a nice savings if we could find something else that worked.â
Unfortunately, none of the other solutions worked as well as Groove.
âNone of them were as simple as they should have been,â Josh said. âThey had all these complicated setups and options. It would be really difficult to set up a Knowledge Base and really difficult to track the flow of a conversation.â
It was customers who felt it the most.
âCustomers were upset, and we started to lose business from it,â Josh said. âThatâs when I just said: âWe need to go back to Grooveâ.â
Going Back to Groove for Customer Support
âWe needed to keep it simple,â Josh told us. âNow that weâre back on Groove, I can see how it really helps us save a lot of time.â
Joshâs team was also pleased with the return to Groove.
âIâve also gotten a lot of good feedback from our staff about it,â Josh said. âTheyâve used other platforms in the past, and they all said those were a lot more complicated.â
